Dr. Swinemar graduated with a Bachelor of Science from Dalhousie University in 1979 and he received a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Ontario Veterinary College in 1985. Dr. Swinemar originates from Dartmouth and the South Shore of Nova Scotia. He joined Woodlawn Veterinary Hospital, now PetWorks, in 1997 and has remained an owner/minority owner since that time. Prior to Petworks, he practiced in rural clinics here in Nova Scotia. He established the first radioactive iodine treatment facility in the Maritimes for treating hyperthyroid cats here at the Petworks Hospital in 2007.
As a small animal veterinarian, Dr. Swinemar holds memberships in several professional associations ( CVMA, NSVMA, AONA, ACVS, VES ). Dr. Swinemar’s practice is restricted to surgery only. He has particular interests in orthopedic/sports medicine, and minimally invasive surgery (endoscopy, laparoscopy and arthroscopy). He is always looking for ways to bring minimally invasive surgical and diagnostic techniques to our patients to improve outcomes and reduce post-surgical discomfort.
Aside from his passion for the veterinary profession, Dr. Swinemar is an avid cyclist, motorcyclist, outdoor enthusiast and sailor.
